For those who are fans of the newest installment to the series, Mortal Kombat X, soon you’ll be able to rejoice for Mortal Kombat in a different way—by drinking Mortal Kombat beer.
As you can see in the picture above, the beers are coming in three different forms, aptly named Scorpion, Sub Zero and Raiden, after the famed Mortal Kombat fighters.
The Sub-Zero Imperial IPA will be an India Pale Ale that Polygon recommends you “Drink icy for more of the hops or warmer for more malt.” The Raiden Imperial Saison has a shot of CO2 while Scorpion’s Imperial Stout throws in a little bit of fiery southwest chilies and vanilla bean.
Mortal Kombat has been a franchise that has lasted the test of time, reigning on fans’ top favorites lists since 1992. It seems only natural that, alongside toys and a cheesy movie series, Mortal Kombat get its own line of beer as well.
Being a fan of darker beers myself, I’d be interested to try the Scorpion’s Stout, but I’m not sure if I’d like the hint of heat. But the real question is, where are these going to be sold and will they even taste good? I’m assuming if the first three beers in the Mortal Kombat line do well, they’ll be releasing more themed beers, and they’ve got a ton of characters to get ideas from. Can you imagine a Milena Porter? My mouth waters just at the thought. Personally, I'm actually hoping more games jump on the bandwagon and create game-themed beer. I think it's a huge market, especially for gamers, and it's the right kind of product to market to gamers. I mean what goes great with any video game? Alcohol, of course. especially the most stressful games.
There’s no indication of when we can expect these Mortal Kombat X beers, but we can hope that Sound Brewery will have them in time for the hot days of summer right around the corner.
