Star Wars: The Old Republic Is EA's Most Expensive Game Ever

When one of the biggest publishers around decides to make an MMO based on one of the biggest film franchises of all time, you have to expect a lot of money to get thrown around. EA's putting more money into Star Wars: The Old Republic than they've put into any other project.

"It is the largest R&D project EA has ever undertaken in terms of total dollars that we expect to spend bringing the title to market," said EA chief financial officer Eric Brown at Janney Capital Markets' 2010 Consumer Conference (via Gamasutra).

EA stated in the past that SW:TOR would need over 1 million subscribers to break even. We'll have to wait awhile to see if the game hits that target. Brown says that it probably won't be released in EA's current fiscal year, which ends in March 2011.
