Coming this October to the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network is Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The game is designed to be a classic vertical/side-scrolling arcade action game for multiple players, as well as a cooperative fighting game that requires working together to fight off bosses as Voltron. The official debut trailer was released for the game and it’s no more exciting or disappointing than you might have been expecting.

As you can see, the trailer is short and sweet, composed mostly of footage from the cartoon.

The run-and-gun gameplay looks like the standard-fare arcade stuff but what’s interesting are the boss fights; I mean, does each player control a limb or something? How does that work? Will it be like the quick-time events in Resident Evil 5 where each player will take turns pressing a button? I can imagine that could get frustrating if someone lags like a little ho. Can you imagine yelling at someone “Kick him in the nuts dude! Just press ‘X’ come on!” And then the poor kid is mumbling in the mic “It’s too laggy, sorry guys” just before Voltron explodes from a devastating counter-nut kick. Man, those are good times just waiting to happen.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe is set to release this October for the Xbox 360 and PS3 via their respective digital platforms. You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the Official Website.
