Epic Games and Sony have announced a partnership that will bring a physical copy of Paragon to store shelves. It’s called Paragon Essentials Edition, and it includes a whole bunch of digital goodies for folks who want a jump-start in the upcoming MOBA/shooter.
As mentioned above, Paragon is something of a MOBA crossed with a shooter. The gameplay is more action heavy, with players frequently gunning at one another from the third-person perspective. As is common for a MOBA, the game will be free-to-play when it launches later this year.
The team at Epic has worked out a deal with Sony, however, that will see the home of the PlayStation publishing a physical edition of the game called Paragon Essentials Edition. This might be worth checking out, especially if you got in on the Paragon beta and are having a grand ole time.
The announcement went live earlier today via the PlayStation Blog. Probably the most intriguing point is that this physical version of Paragon has been built so that even folks who bought the digital Founder’s Pack for the game will get plenty of goodies out of the deal.
Right out of the gate, this physical edition of Paragon wants players to feel like they are getting their money’s worth. Being a free-to-play title, Paragon has a store that uses real world currency, better known as Paragon Coins in the game. The Essentials Edition boasts 6,000 Paragon Coins, which translates to $60 on its own. You can spend this currency on skins, boosts and other items, as well as Master Challenges for the various characters.
Also on offer are five of those Hero Master Challenges we just mentioned and, as the announcement points out, each of these Challenges immediately offers a new skin, permanent XP boost extra rewards like taunts for the characters. This set includes Challenges for Twinblast, Sevarog, Iggy and Scorch and two heroes that haven’t even been announced yet.
Five skins will be included in this set, including a Wasteland Twinblast skin that, for the time being, will only be available through this set.
Also included are five Rep Boosts, which speed up how quickly you earn Rep in the game. Rep is the in-game currency you don’t have to spend real money on and can be used to unlock card packs, Master Challenges and the like.
Again, that’ll set you back 60 bucks for what he team states is worth more than $160 in value. Also, if you preorder Paragon, you’ll get an extra 1,000 Paragon Coins just for fun.
Paragon hits virtual (and now the physical) store shelves on June 7.
