There are major IPs and then there's the Wizarding World. Generations grew up with the Harry Potter movies, as well as the books, video games, stage plays, and theme parks. Fans regularly re-watch the Potter movies (which are streaming with an HBO Max subscription), but the same can't be said for its cast. Draco Malfoy actor admitted he hasn't seen them in years, but also revealed the sweet reason why he might be down to take that stroll down memory lane.
The Harry Potter cast grew up before our eyes, including Felton, who recently reprised his role as Draco in The Cursed Child on Broadway. During an Instagram clip from the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he revealed he's only seen most of the movies once at the premieres. But he might revisit them in the future, saying:
I'm saving them for one day maybe if I had little ones, or I'm a little older. I still feel like I'm reinventing Draco as we speak. I haven't had time to look back at them.
How cute is that? It's been heartening seeing Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe becoming parents, and it sounds like that might be exactly what it takes for Felton to re-watch the Harry Potter movies in order. For now, he's busy reprising the role of Draco on Broadway. And with eight performances a week, can you blame him?
HBO Max: Plans start from $10.99 a month
HBO Max is the streaming home to all things Harry Potter, including the forthcoming TV adaptation. If you want to see The Wizarding World in all its glory you need an HBO Max subscription, so sign up now.
While appearing on Happy Sad Confused, Tom Felton also offered his controversial choice for the best Harry Potter movie: The Chamber of Secrets. But if he actually re-watches the movies, maybe that'll change. He joked about his limited experience actually watching the eight-movie franchise. In his words:
Quite famously I've never seen them more than once.... I was forced to go see them at the premiers. My brothers fell asleep through each one at some point or other. I think my Dad did at the fifth one.
Well, that's not really the reaction that I assume Felton wanted from his family. Then again, his family falling asleep at the movie premieres might have kept him humble as a young star. Either way, he's seen the Wizarding World movies far less than fans.
Of course, fans are curious if Felton and the Harry Potter cast might reunite one day for a Cursed Child movie. There's been no indication that Warner Bros. has any plans to make this happen, but the fact that he's reprising his role as an adult Draco Malfoy is definitely encouraging.
All eight Harry Potter movies are streaming now on HBO Max, and Tom Felton will play Draco on Broadway in The Cursed Child until May 10th. Then there's the Harry Potter TV show, which is set to debut its first season in Christmas as part of the 2026 TV schedule.
