We live in a time where it feels like there’s always new horror movies around every corner to look forward to and look over our shoulders over. From the record-breaking release of Sinners, to the amazingly twisty Companion or the triumphant return of Final Destination and an arguably perfect horror movie, per our Weapons review, 2025 so far has been terrifyingly good. With the fall season here, and the 2026 movie schedule . on the horizon, we can’t wait to see what spooky movies await.
I’ve rounded up a mostly comprehensive list of all the slashers, serial killer thrillers, psychological chillers, creature features, sci-fi freakshows, and whatever else today’s horror filmmakers are throwing at us. Will any of the releases listed below eventually make our list of the best horror movies ever? Let’s take a look at all the worthy contenders on the way.
Troll 2 - December 1, 2025
Cast & Director: Ine Marie Wilmann, Kim S. Falck-Jørgensen, etc
How to see it: With a Netflix subscription
What’s Troll 2 About? Once again based on Norwegian folklore, Troll 2 has a new troll waking up and going on a rampage. The ragtag group from the original movie team up again to stop it from destroying Oslo.
Why We’re Excited: Troll 2 is reportedly the largest production ever in the Nordic countries, and we can’t wait to see how it follows up the first hit movie from 2021.
Watch While Waiting: Troll, The Host
Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 - December 5, 2025
Cast & Director: Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Matthew Lillard, Wayner Knight, Mckenna Grace, Teo Briones
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 About? The Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel takes place one year after the first movie. Director Emma Tammi told CinemaBlend in October 2023 that the end-credits message teased what’s to come, likely indicating the arrival of the second FNAF video game’s Puppet/Marionette. Scott Cawthon’s company, Scott Games, has also teased new theatrical animatronics such as Toy Bonnie and Toy Chica, and the first trailer that came out in July revealed Mangle is officially part of the sequel.
Why We’re Excited: Love or hate the first film’s story, everything involving the animatronics from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop looked amazing, and there’s enough gaming and book lore to keep this franchise alive for at least the next decade.
Watch While Waiting: Five Nights At Freddy’s, Willy’s Wonderland, 2008’s The Rock-afire Explosion documentary.
Dust Bunny - December 5, 2025
Cast & Director: Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, Bryan Fuller (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Dust Bunny About? Dust Bunny is about an eight-year-old girl who asks her neighbor for assistance in killing the monster that lives under her bed, which she thinks ate her family, per Deadline.
Why We’re Excited: Dust Bunny serves as a reunion between Mikkelson and Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, along with starring Alien icon herself, Sigourney Weaver. It’s also premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, which has a great reputation of hosting solid movies that end up becoming our favorites of the year.
Watch While Waiting: Lights Out, The Boogeyman
Anaconda - December 25, 2025
Cast & Director: Jack Black, Paul Rudd, Selton Mello, Daniela Melchior, Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Ione Skye, Tom Gormican (writer/director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Anaconda About? In 1997, the original Anaconda movie was released with stars Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight and Owen Wilson. It was about a documentary film crew hunting down a legendary giant anaconda in the Amazon rainforest. Apparently, this remake will focus on a group of middle-aged friends who go on a trip to remake their favorite movie.
Why We’re Excited: Paul Rudd, Jack Black, and a big snake? Sign us up right there. The Anaconda trailer teases a lot of funny moments and over-the-top kills, so we’re all in.
Watch While Waiting: Anaconda, Snakes On A Plane
We Bury The Dead - January 2, 2026
Cast & Director: Daisy Ridley, Mark Coles Smith, Brenton Thwaites, Kym Jackson, Matt Whelan, Deanna Cooney, Salme Geransar, Zak Hilditch (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s We Bury The Dead About? We Bury The Dead is classified as a “post-apocalyptic thriller” by Deadline and follows a woman named Ava (Ridley) who has joined a military unit on a mission to help identify the dead after a failed American military experiment leads to a ton of casualties in Tasmania. While on the trip, Ava and the team start to realize the dead bodies of the victims are coming back to life.
Why We’re Excited: Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley potentially being a final girl for the first time excites us the most, but the concept itself has also piqued our interest.
Watch While Waiting: 28 Days Later, World War Z
Primate - January 9, 2026
Cast & Director: Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Troy Kotsur, Kae Alexander, Johannes Roberts (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Primate About? Primate is, apparently, about a college student and her friends as they become trapped during her pool party and must survive when her family’s pet chimpanzee, Ben, contracts rabies and becomes violent toward them, per a Bloody Disgusting report.
Why We’re Excited: The killer chimp movie is said to use “old school practical effects” (per above source) and stars CODA Oscar winner Troy Kotsur in an undisclosed role.
Watch While Waiting: Congo, Nope
SOULM8TE - January 9, 2026
Cast & Director: Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, Claudia Doumit, Kate Dolan (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s SOULM8TE About? Put simply, Blumhouse’s SOULM8TE is an R-rated version of the movie it’s spinning out of, M3GAN, following a widower who aims to ease his grief with the help of an A.I. companion. But his efforts to create a fully sentient mate are thwarted when the android turns into a nightmare of a significant other.
Why We’re Excited: Based on a story idea from producer James Wan, SOULM8TE doesn’t need to do much beyond its goofily creepy premise to excel with theatergoers. We can just hear the awkward pin-drops during any hypothetical sex scenes.
Watch While Waiting: Weird Science, Westworld
Sleepwalker - January 9, 2026
Cast & Director: Hayden Panettiere, Beverly D’Angelo, Justin Chatwin, Mischa Barton, Brandon Auman (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Sleepwalker About? Sleepwalker is about an accomplished artist who is “haunted by the tragic loss of her daughter” in a car accident that also led her abusive husband to end up in a coma. Following the incident, she begins having intense sleepwalking episodes and “grapples with the blurred lines between reality and nightmare”, per Deadline.
Why We’re Excited: We’re looking forward to seeing Hayden Hayden Panettiere leading a horror movie of her own after famously being in the Scream franchise.
Watch While Waiting: Nightmare on Elm Street, Silent Hill
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple - January 16, 2026
Cast & Director: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Emma Laird, Nia DaCosta (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple About? Following 28 Years Later coming out over the summer, a sequel titled The Bone Temple is also coming in early 2026. It will follow Spike as he joins Sir Jimmy Crystal’s cult and what happens to Ralph Fiennes’ Dr. Ian Kelson next.
Why We’re Excited: Our 28 Days Later review gave the movie a perfect five out of five, so we’re clearly ready for more. Director Nia DaCosta is also a great pick to bring her own vision to the franchise after Danny Boyle.
Watch While Waiting: 28 Years Later, Candyman (2021)
Night Patrol - January 16, 2026
Cast & Director: Jermaine Fowler, Justin Long, Freddie Gibbs, RJ Cyler, Dermot Mulroney, Ryan Prows (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Night Patrol About? Night Patrol follows a Los Angeles cop who discovers a task force that is endangering the residents of the housing projects he grew up in.
Why We’re Excited: Night Patrol has an exciting cast, concept and social commentary within the horror movie.
Watch While Waiting: Nightcrawler, Candyman (1992)
Return To Silent Hill - January 23, 2026
Cast & Director: Jeremy Irvine, Hannah Emily Anderson, Evie Templeton, Christophe Gans (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Return To Silent Hill About? Remember the Silent Hill movies? It’s been over a decade since the video game series was adapted, but it’s finally happening and reportedly based on Silent Hill 2, which is about a character named James as he searches for his wife in the supernatural and mysterious town of Silent Hill.
Why We’re Excited: The new Silent Hill movie being written/directed by Christophe Gans, who made the first Silent Hill movie back in 2006, and we’ll be interested to see the second game be adapted.
Watch While Waiting: Silent Hill (2006), Oculus
Send Help - January 30, 2026
Cast & Director: Rachel McAdams, Chris Pang, Dylan O’Brien, Dennis Haysbert, Sam Raimi (director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Send Help About? Sam Raimi’s upcoming horror movie is a survival movie about a woman and her boss who struggle to stay alive after experiencing a plane crash that ends up on a remote island.
Why We’re Excited: Director Sam Raimi is one of the greats when it comes to the horror genre and it’s been over 15 years since he’s made a new movie of the genre. It’s a solid plotline to play with, so we’re so curious what he’ll bring to the script from the writers behind multiple Friday The 13th movies, Mark Swift and Damian Shannon.
Watch While Waiting: Misery, Evil Dead
Cold Storage - February 6, 2026
Cast & Director: Georgina Campbell, Joe Keery, Liam Neeson, Sosie Bacon, Vanessa Redgrave, Jonny Campbell (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Cold Storage About? Cold Storage is about two employees of a self-storage facility (which was built on top of a former military base) when a parasitic fungus escapes from the underground levels.
Why We’re Excited: This looks like a fun horror romp that has a great cast and is based on a script/book by the writer behind the first Jurassic Park film, David Koepp.
Watch While Waiting: Presence, You Should Have Left
Whistle - February 6, 2026
Cast & Director: Dafne Keen, Sophie Nélisse, Sky Yang, Percy Hynes White, Michelle Fairley, Nick Frost, Colin Hardy (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Whistle About? The title refers to the ancient Aztec death whistle a group of teens find. When one blows on it, it summons their own death to hunt them down. The discovery leads to a string of horrific deaths at their high school and neighborhood.
Why We’re Excited: Whistle has already received high praise by critics (via Rotten Tomatoes) following its premiere at Fantastic Fest that’s having them call it “deeply effective” and a “nod to the classics.”
Watch While Waiting: Talk To Me, The Ruins
Psycho Killer - February 20, 2026
Cast & Director: Georgina Campbell, Logan Miller, James Preston Rogers, Gavin Polone (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Psycho Killer About? Per Deadline, Psycho Killer is about police officer Jane Thorne (Campbell) who is on a mission to take down a serial killer known as the Satanic Slasher, who murdered her husband.
Why We’re Excited: Georgina Campbell has become a resident scream queen in recent years, between being in Barbarian, Bird Box Barcelona and The Watchers. This sounds absolutely chilling, and we’re here for it.
Watch While Waiting: Silence of the Lambs, Seven, Woman of the Hour
Scream 7 - February 27, 2026
Cast & Director: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Joel McHale, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Roger L. Jackson, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Kevin Williamson (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Scream 7 About? Not much has been revealed about Scream 7 aside from the mix of legacy and fresh cast, but we do imagine Ghostface will be back for another fun slasher whodunnit. We know Sidney Prescott will have a daughter this time around and multiple original Scream cast members (even the dead ones) are back. You can check out the first Scream 7 trailer.
Why We’re Excited: After Neve Campbell decided to skip the sixth Scream movie, we’re excited about her return along with the screenwriter of the original ‘90s movie, Kevin Williamson, stepping up as director. Plus, we’re oh so curious how the franchise is going to pull off bringing back David Arquette and Matthew Lillard after their deaths in prior Scream movies.
Watch While Waiting: The Scream movies 1-6
The Bride! - March 6, 2026
Cast & Director: Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Magaro, Jeannie Berlin, Maggie Gyllenhaal (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s The Bride! About? Maggie Gyllenhaal’s second directorial feature effort (which she also scripted), The Bride! will be a non-Universal monster movie partially inspired by James Whale’s top-notch horror sequel Bride of Frankenstein. It follows the Monster traveling to Chicago to task the presumably mad doctor Dr. Euphronius with creating a female mate from the corpse of a murdered woman. Chaos ensues to the nth degree.
Why We’re Excited: With a zillion direct Frankenstein remakes already out there, we welcome anytime someone goes to bat for the Bride, and Maggie Gyllenhaal cast is a murderer’s row of talent that presumably wouldn’t have signed on if it seemed like a bad move.
Watch While Waiting: Bride of Frankenstein, Ed Wood’s Bride of the Monster
They Will Kill You - March 27, 2026
Cast & Director: Zazie Beetz, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, Patricia Arquette, Kirill Sokolov (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s They Will Kill You About? Beetz plays a woman who takes a job as a housekeeper in a NYC high rise unaware that the building has a history with mysterious disappearances.
Why We’re Excited: The cast is obviously impressive, and the title is enticingly frightening.
Watch While Waiting: Nanny, 1408
The Third Parent - April 3, 2026
Cast & Director: Rob Lowe, Roselyn Sanchez, Crispin Glover, David Michaels (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s The Third Parent About? Even though this is coming out close to Valentine’s Day, it will actually apparently take place during the Fourth of July holiday when an unexpected visitor named Tommy Taffy arrives at an all-American family’s celebration and insists on being part of the festivities.
Why We’re Excited: Rob Lowe fronting a horror movie is something we’ve just got to see.
Watch While Waiting: Us, Jaws, The Purge
Ready Or Not: Here I Come - April 10, 2026
Cast & Director: Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Kevin Durand, David Cronenberg, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Olivia Cheng

The second Ready Or Not movie takes place right after the events of the first Ready Or Not, where a bride is hunted by her in-laws due to a bloody family game spawned from a long-held curse. Grace will be thrust into another game that’s connected to her survival of the previous game.
Why We’re Excited: Ready Or Not is one of the most clever and fresh horror movies, so we can’t wait to find out what happens next, and see this incredible cast interact. Sarah Michelle Gellar back in a genre film? Sign us up!
Watch While Waiting: Ready Or Not, It’s What’s Inside, You’re Next
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy - April 17, 2026
Cast & Director: Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, Veronica Falcon, May Calamawy, May Elghety, Lee Cronin (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Lee Cronin’s The Mummy About? We don’t yet have details about the plot of The Mummy, but classically this story has followed an ancient Mummy that comes back to life to haunt present-day archaeologists.
Why We’re Excited: After the pretty atrocious last The Mummy with Tom Cruise, all we’ve really wanted was another Brendan Fraser The Mummy movie (and we’re reportedly getting one now), but we are curious how the Evil Dead filmmaker plans to revive the famed monster. Jack Reynor is a great pick for a leading man, and having Egyptian-Palestinian actress May Calamawy in the cast is also a good sign.
Watch While Waiting: Every The Mummy movie back to back
Obsession - May 15, 2026
Cast & Director: Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter, Curry Barker (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Obsession About? Obsession is about a guy who buys a supernatural toy and wishes for his childhood friend to fall in love with him.
Why We’re Excited: Obsession has screened to fantastic reviews (it has a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) that are highlighting it for being simultaneously funny and genuinely scary.
Watch While Waiting: Heart Eyes, Fresh
Scary Movie 6 - June 12, 2026
Cast & Director: Marlon Wayans, Dave Sheridan, Shawn Wayans
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Scary Movie 6 About? If you were around in the early 2000s, you remember the hilarious horror parody movies called Scary Movie. Well after over a decade, the Wayans are returning to the franchise for the release of Scary Movie 6, likely to make fun of the latest offerings from the genre.
Why We’re Excited: The original writers of Scary Movie are back, and we’re very curious how a 2026 movie from the franchise will look after all this time.
Watch While Waiting: The Scary Movie films, The Haunted House, The Blackening
Shiver - July 3, 2026
Cast & Director: Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak, Djimon Hounsou, Tommy Wirkola (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Shiver About? Since Jaws is so beloved, it’s not surprising more filmmakers want to recapture its terrifying magic in their own way. While we don’t know much about this movie’s plot, we know it’s a shark thriller that was originally known as Beneath The Storm.
Why We’re Excited: We’re most excited to see the star of Bridgerton Season 1 front her own horror movie in the latest attempt to rival the thrills of Jaws.
Watch While Waiting: Jaws, Crawl, The Shallows
Evil Dead Burn - July 24, 2026
Cast & Director: Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Victory Ndukwe, Sébastien Vanicek (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Evil Dead Burn About? Not much here on plotline yet, but what we know about Evil Dead Burn is that the filmmaker has said he wants to “make a mean film” that “leaves you feeling exhausted” with this Evil Dead movie.
Why We’re Excited: Right now we’re most intrigued by what the title means and how its French director will forward this long-running franchise.
Watch While Waiting: Vermines (2023), other Evil Dead movies
Flowervale Street - August 14, 2026
Cast & Director: Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, Christian Convery, P.J. Byrne, Chris Coy, David Robert Mitchell (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Flowervale Street About? So far, we only know that Flowervale Street will revolve around a family that starts to become suspicious of weird happenings on their street.
Why We’re Excited: It’s a rare horror movie produced by J.J. Abrams from his Bad Robot production company.
Watch While Waiting: Presence, Donnie Darko
Thread: An Insidious Tale - August 21, 2026
Cast & Director: Mandy Moore, Kumail Nanjiani, Jeremy Slater (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Insidious 6 About? Rather than the sixth Insidious movie being a continuation, this will be a spinoff. Per Deadline, Thread: An Insidious Tale follows a wife and husband (Moore and Nanjiani) who try to use a spell in order to travel back in time and prevent the death of their young daughter.
Why We’re Excited: Following 2018’s lackluster sequel subtitled The Last Key, franchise star Patrick Wilson got behind the camera for 2023’s somewhat better The Red Door. Despite the franchise’s dwindling creative results, Insidious taking a new direction here could be interesting.
Watch While Waiting: The first two Insidious movies, Ouija: Origin of Evil
Clayface - September 11, 2026
Cast & Director: Tom Rhys Harries, Max Minghella, Naomi Ackie, James Watkins (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Clayface About? James Gunn’s DC universe recently had a very successful start with Superman, and in 2026 the upcoming Clayface movie hopes to continue the streak with a tale Gunn has described as a “pure fucking horror” film. Between that and the movie’s script being written by Mike Flanagan, who is very famous in the horror space, it’s going to be a lot of horror fans' most anticipated comic book movie.
Why We’re Excited: The pages of DC Comics have had some great storylines that can lend themselves to great horror movies, but we just haven’t seen DC or Marvel fully commit to it yet. That’s what makes Clayface most exciting!
Watch While Waiting: The Thing, Brightburn
Resident Evil - September 18, 2026
Cast & Director: Austin Abrams, Zach Cregger (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Untitled Resident Evil Movie About? We don’t know much about the plot of the next Resident Evil movie, but per the writer/director (via Deadline) it will be “unlike any of the previous films” and a “wild ride.” He’s a big fan of the video games and has said the movie will follow one central protagonist as “they descend deeper into hell.”
Why We’re Excited: Zach Cregger earned the respect of horror fans with Barbarian, and has another original horror movie (higher on this list) in the works with Weapons which looks awesome. Seems like as good of a time as any for him to take on a franchise, and Resident Evil could use a good movie about it.
Watch While Waiting: Weapons, the Resident Evil movies
Terrifier 4 - October 1, 2026
Cast & Director: Damien Leone (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Terrifier 4 About? Apparently Terrifier 4 will finally give audiences the origin story of Art the Clown. Damien Leone told Collider that he’s “taking a bit of a risk” by uncovering Art’s backstory, but teased that he’ll do so in a “Lynchian way.”
Why We’re Excited: The Terrifier movies have consistently grabbed our attention, and we’re interested to see what’s up his sleeve next following its massive success.
Watch While Waiting: The other Terrifier movies
Other Mommy - October 9, 2026
Cast & Director: Jessica Chastain, Jay Duplass, Dichen Lachman, Rob Savage (Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Other Mommy About? Based on the novel by Bird Box author Josh Malerman, this upcoming horror flick, which was previously titled Incidents Around The House, is about an eight-year-old girl named Bela who becomes haunted by an entity she calls “Other Mommy.”
Why We’re Excited: Other Mommy is produced by the horror geniuses of our time, James Wan and Jason Blum, and the plotline sounds particularly terrifying.
Watch While Waiting: The Sixth Sense, Come Play
Werwulf - December 25, 2026
Cast & Director: Robert Eggers (Writer/Director)
How to see it: In Theaters
What’s Werwulf About? After tackling vampires for Nosferatu, Robert Eggers is taking on werewolves next with a movie called Werwulf, which he co-wrote with his The Northman collaborator Sjón. It’s reportedly set in 13th century England that will feature dialogue true to the time period. At this time, we don’t know much else about the plot.
Why We’re Excited: We loved Nosferatu, and just about everything Robert Eggers has done so far, so who’s to say his streak of creepy good movies won’t continue here?
Watch While Waiting: Nosferatu, The Lighthouse, The Witch
