Adam Sandler's Grown Ups May Be Getting A Sequel

Whether or not you've been hoping for a sequel to the Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups, we may actually get one. While Adam Sandler isn’t exactly known for sequels, a script may be in the works to bring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider back together for more family fun.

Did Happy Gilmore get a sequel? Or Billy Madison? What about The Wedding Singer 2? Nope. And as beloved as those movies are, I doubt many are complaining about the fact that Sandler didn’t try to recreate the magic with a continuation of their stories. Grown Ups may be the first Adam Sandler movie to get a sequel. Variety is reporting that Sony Pictures and Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions are in talks with Fred Wolf to write the script for the sequel to the 2010 comedy Grown Ups. At this point, that’s as far as it goes as the site notes that Sandler is not locked in to star and his involvement is “contingent on the script.”

This is obviously in the early stages of development and perhaps nothing will come of it, but it’s interesting, to say the least, that Sandler is willing to consider returning to the story. In Grown Ups, Sandler, James, Rock, and Schneider played fathers of kids of varying ages who join together for a big family vacation. David Spade was also part of the group. The film earned $271 million at the box office, so a sequel probably makes sense from a financial perspective, but I’d rather the news be that Sandler is reuniting with the cast for some completely new project rather than to revisit Grown Ups.
