Beauty And The Beast 3D Pushed Back To 2011

It looks like Valentine’s Day will be your only romantic movie option next holiday weekend. As reported by Stitch Kingdom, Disney has decided to push back the release of Beauty and the Beast in 3D probably until 2011. There’s got to be something romantic in The Wolfman. Right?

Disney first showed off footage from the 3D version of the classic at ShoWest back in March and it was met with heaps of praise. Still, as the much-anticipated February 12th release date approaches, we’ve seen zero promotional material making this news far from surprising.

Beauty and the Beast is still expected to hit Blu-ray in October. Slash Film suggests having the Blu-ray hit streets before the 3D film makes it to theaters could have been the result of a marketing strategy. Why not get all you can out of the 2D version and then have the updated version benefit from the hype?

Ever since reading the massive amounts of acclaim for the portion shown at ShoWest, I’ve been itching to see one of my favorite Disney classics in 3D. While I don’t appreciate a studio testing my patience, if time is what it takes to do the film justice, I’ll wait.
