Bill Paxton In Talks To Join Tom Cruise In All You Need Is Kill

Bill Paxton is certainly no stranger to the science-fiction genre. His friendship with James Cameron resulted in roles in movies like Aliens and The Terminator, but he was also in Weird Science, Slipstream and Predator 2. And now he’s close to adding yet another bit of sci-fi to his resume.

Variety reports that Paxton is in talks to join the upcoming sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill, co-starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The story, which is based on a graphic novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, tells the story of a solider (Cruise) who is forced to keep reliving the last day of his life over and over again after he is killed in a war against an alien race. Much like how Bill Murray became a better person in Groundhog Day, the solider uses these time loops to train and become a better soldier. Should he accept the role, Paxton will play the “tough leader of Cruise's platoon.”

Dante Harper (Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters) wrote the script with Joby Harold (who is in the midst of doing a rewrite). Harold is also serving as a producer on the movie with Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Jason Hoffs of 3 Arts Entertainment. Production will start later this year in London.

Paxton most recently starred alongside Kevin Costner in the acclaimed miniseries Hatfields & McCoys and earlier this year he played Gina Carano’s father in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire. He recently finished production on The Colony, Red Wing and 2 Guns.
