Bond Goes Blind

Ever wonder what would happen if a blindness epidemic suddenly hit your city? I know one thing; I wouldn’t be able to get as many books on CD at the library as I do now. Apparently in "Blindness", a future fable written by Jose Sarmago, what does happen is a little more draconian. The government of a nameless European city goes all Japanese internment camp on those who go blind. Left in increasingly deteriorating conditions, the blind break into groups with the more powerful group trying to exploit weaker inmates.

Variety is reporting that The Constant Gardner director Fernando Meirelles is planning to adapt the book into a movie. Didn’t we already see this when its title was Children of Men? I’m sure this will be totally different. Besides that movie starred Julianne Moore and Clive Owen and this one will star…..um….Julianne Moore and Daniel Craig. See, its one whole person different.

At this point, Craig and Moore are still “in talks” to join the cast. Craig will play a doctor who is stricken with blindness and Moore will play his wife. She fakes catching the blindness disease so she can join her husband in the internment camp. Since she can see, she’s always doing wacky things like moving his chair from where it was the day before. Or probably something a little more serious. Shooting will start later this year with a 2008 release date planned.
