Earlier this week Carrie Fisher told a reporter that she would be coming back as Princess Leia Organa in Star Wars Episode VII. It was a strange story given that everything about the film has been kept tightly under wraps and the fact that director J.J. Abrams is notorious for his secrecy. It was weird to get such a big detail so early in development. Well, unsurprisingly, the actress and her people are now backing away from the statement.
CNN has received a comment from one of Fisher's representatives saying that the actress was actually kidding when she said that when would be in the next episode of the Star Wars saga. "She was joking. Nothing has been announced," the rep said.
It is worth noting that Fisher gave a joke response to the next question in the interview, concerning what Princess Leia would be like so many years after the events of Return of the Jedi, but then she corrected herself to give a reasonable answer about the direction of the character. Said the actress at the time, presumably seriously, "I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle."
Michael Arndt is still working on the screenplay for Star Wars Episode VII, and there have yet to be any confirmations regarding recurring characters or plot points (though there have been plenty of rumors). The film was originally scheduled to be released during the summer of 2015, but it's possible that date won't be met.
