Chris Evans Wasn't Sure He Wanted To Be Captain America

Right before his movie The Losers went into theaters and found itself welcomed by a bunch of movie-goers dressed as empty seats, Chris Evans sat down with ScreenStar to discuss a little The First Avenger: Captain America. Evans is set to star as Captain America/ Steve Rogers in the Joe Johnston-directed origin story of Marvel’s iconic super soldier.

One thing that comes across in the interview is Evans’ seeming reluctance to play Cap. It’s a bit confusing to think that an actor like Evans, who only really does comic book-based movies (or at least is only known for them) would be hesitant to don the red, white and blue. Here's how Evans explained it:

"It was a challenging process for me, trying to decide whether or not to do it. I came down on the side of going for it because I really think Marvel is doing some great things these days..."

Umm, it’s not because this is going to be a megahit and will lead to another box office winning lotto ticket when The Avengers comes out a year later? Maybe it’s Chris being humble, or maybe he just doesn’t want us to know that he got on his knees and thanked God when he scored the role. Evans goes on to say:

It was tricky saying yes. A couple of sleepless nights were involved. I'm going for it and I'm not looking back. I'm trying to just stay positive and focus on the fact that it could be a great thing.

Could be a great thing?! Tricky saying yes?! Sleepless nights?! Who does this guy think we are? We saw Fantastic Four. We saw Push. We didn’t see The Nanny Diaries when you played the role of “Harvard Hottie,” but by all accounts it was terrible. Come on man. Just say this is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to you and we'll push you into superstardom.
