Dexter's Aimee Garcia Joins The Cast Of RoboCop

Aimee Garcia, who is best known for her work on the Showtime series Dexter, is the latest actor to join the cast of Jose Padilha's RoboCop. She joins an esteemed group of performers that includes Joel Kinnaman (as the titular hero), Michael Keaton (as the central villain), Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Jennifer Ehle and Michael K. Williams. The film is currently in production.
According to THR, which first reported the casting news, Garcia will largely be working with Oldman on the film, as Garcia will play a scientist who helps rebuild Alex J. Murphy as a a metal supercop. Oldman is playing the head scientist in charge of the cyborg's creation. Production began last week in Toronto and the first images of the new armor arrived online this past Saturday (and this new promo poster showed up on Sunday). Nick Schenk, James Vanderbilt and Joshua Zetumer wrote the screenplay and the movie will be in theaters on August 9, 2013.
Beyond her work on Dexter, where she plays the lead character's nanny, Garcia has done a lot of television, taking roles on series such as Trauma, George Lopez, Off The Map, Hawaii Five-0 and, most recently Vegas. Her time on the big screen, however, has been limited, with parts in movies like Spanglish, D.E.B.S., Dragon Wars: D-War and the dance drama Go For It! Perhaps her role in RoboCop will give her the edge to start working in bigger and bigger projects down the line.
