In theory the Spike Scream awards celebrate horror movies, but in practice it seems they’re willing to promote anything that will get people to pay attention. For instance, for some reason, Green Lantern won an award for most anticipated movie. In the process they showed off some sort of massive, oversized recreation of Green Lantern’s power battery, as it’ll be used in the production and then later, Daily Blam somehow got its hands on a photo of the actual power battery they’ll use on the film.

Take a look at both and click on either image to see more where they originated:

If you’re new to the Green Lantern universe, then you’re probably wondering why Green Lantern needs a battery and if he does, why not just use Energizers instead of this funny looking thing. But unlike other superheroes, Green Lantern gets his powers from a ring which he wears on his finger. The ring, however, must frequently be recharged and it’s recharged using the battery. It looks weird because the ring and the battery are alien in origin and, judging from those pictures they’ve managed to pull off the alienness of its design while keeping the essential look of the battery as it appeared in the comics.

Here’s a quick look at the power battery as it appeared in comic book form for comparison:

It looks considerably more lantern-like in the comics, but at the same time, also far less alien. The tweaked design makes more sense.
