If isn’t already obvious, today is a good day if you’re excited for the upcoming film The Thing, a prequel to John Carpenter’s classic of the same name from 1982. Back in June, I was given the incredible opportunity travel to Toronto to watch the film while it was in production, and in addition to getting a first-hand look at the set design and special effects workshop, I also spoke with many members of the cast and crew, including stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton. To coincide with the release of my report, Universal has sent over the first images from the film, which you may have seen bits and pieces of in the rest of my coverage. Now it is my pleasure to share the full-size versions with you.
While you don’t get to see any of the horrific mutations that will undoubtedly be present in the final film, fans of the Carpenter movie will immediately recognize the world that this film inhabits. Featuring both stills from the final film and shots from behind-the-scenes, these images give you a glimpse of what this film has to offer. You have freezing cold temperatures, heavy jackets, flamethrowers and an evil, replicating alien on the loose. What’s not to like?
Scope out the pictures below and be sure to click to see them in their highest resolution on our Preview Page. The Thing arrives in theaters on April 29, 2011.
