With Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice finally in theaters, it’s time to focus on the next movie in the DC Expanded Universe, and arguably its most important film: Justice League Part One. We’ve got a solid idea of how Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman will work together but now it’s time to see more DC comics icons on the screen like the Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. With all these big-time superheroes sharing the screen for the first time, it’s hard to picture that this movie will have time to focus on anyone else, but there are even more characters in the film played by some actors of repute.
It was previously reported that Oscar winner J.K. Simmons was cast as Commissioner Jim Gordon, and that he would be making his debut appearance in Justice League Part One. With some of DC’s heaviest hitters vying for equal screen time, it wasn’t clear how much Simmons would appear in the film as Gordon, but the actor might have an answer for that.
While doing an interview with DP/30 for his new movie The Meddler, J.K. Simmons got to reveal some new information on his role as the Commission of Gotham City, and how much we can expect to see him in Justice League Part One. The character might not have much screen time to start, but there seems to be a promise of more to come in future films.
I'm going into a thing that hopefully will be 2, 3, 4, maybe more movies for me, and my part in the first one is really very small. But obviously, we know who the guy is. We know his whole backstory, based on the comic book. So, I'm just gonna finish doing my research on that. And probably not watch the other actors who have played the part, because that is kind of intimidating, honestly, and I don't think I would find that to be productive. So, I'll do my take.

J.K. Simmons has previously talked about how he was going to approach Gordon and prepare his own performance of a character who has been played by multiple actors, but the main nugget of information is that his time in Justice League Part One will be brief. That isn’t much of a shocker, considering that it’s hard to imagine Gordon running into battle against an all-powerful alien warlord, but the actor drops the hint that it won’t be the only time we see him in these movies. A Batman solo film written and directed by Ben Affleck is coming and it’d be impossible to believe that Commissioner Gordon wasn’t in that movie.
If you’d like to see the rest of the interview with J.K. Simmons, then check out the 30-minute video below. If you’d rather skip to the Justice League parts, it starts around the 3:20 mark.
J.K. Simmons will first appear as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League Part One, which releases November 17, 2017.

We'll continue to update you on all things DC Extended Universe as more information becomes public to us.
