“My name is Max,” Tweets Marc Webb, sharing the first official image of Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
It’s pretty amazing, no pun intended, how much can be conveyed with one simple image. The picture confirms what Foxx said about his character very early on in the process … long before he even started filming any scenes. While promoting Django Unchained,, Foxx said that his version of Dillon – who’ll go on to become Electro in the movie – “gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”
This guy in the picture, with the thinning hair and the Coke-bottle glasses, definitely looks like someone who has long been getting the short end of life’s stick. He also looks like someone who is taking a special interest in Spider-Man. And look at the images of old Web head in the background! Those eyes on the mask look fantastic. They are pulled right from the comics, and gives me great faith that Webb is solidifying his strong work on The Amazing Spider-Man.
I wonder if the director felt compelled to respond to the flood of on-set images of Foxx in costume as Electro that hit the web (again, no punt intended) after a recent Times Square shoot. Because this pic is the most “official” looking shot Webb has shared on his Twitter page, favoring vague behind-the-scenes cell phone set photos. Still, I LOVE this image of a downtrodden Max Dillon, and I can’t wait to see him unleash his electrified fury on Spider-Man in 2014.
