There are few actors on the sort of hot streak that Jennifer Lawrence has right now. As arguably one of the genuine A-List actresses in the game, she’s in heavy demand, working with two separate franchises and double-fisting awards. She’s expected to take home the Academy Award for American Hustle on Sunday, her second straight Oscar, and she’s got bonafide blockbuster hits with X-Men: Days Of Future Past and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. But is it possible that she’s getting off the treadmill?

Harvey Weinstein was the one who completed the political maneuvering to get Lawrence that first Academy Award for Silver Linings Playbook, and speaking to the Sun (via Time), he says that she’s about to take an extended break.
"She’s going to have a long break for a year where she won’t do anything. It’s been non-stop for her and she deserves a rest… Jennifer is too nice and will do people favors and agrees to do a movie like American Hustle when she could have had a rest. She signed on to do Hunger Games when she was young and wouldn’t have realised how much it would dominate her life. But she’s a professional and always will be."

This certainly makes sense. What people don’t realize is that, in addition to the grind of major film productions, there’s also the incredibly aggravating press commitments, being dragged across the country, talking to journalists with the exact same questions at ungodly hours of the day. Lawrence, of course, is a bubbly, loquacious personality, which makes her one of the most in-demand interviews in the industry. A large chunk of the people who saw American Hustle caught the picture in 2014, which makes it one of four opportunities for audiences to see her this year – she’s also got the delayed drama Serena on the docket, which she’s likely going to have to promote. And there is the third Hunger Games due in November. She also risks overexposure, as most big actors do: audiences know to expect a premium product when they see Lawrence, and all it will take is one weaker film to lower her appeal.

There’s also the matter of Lawrence wanting to have a life. She’s only 23 years old: it would be nice to have a life beyond movie sets and movie stars. So a brief sojourn away from cameras would work as a creative refueling, particularly with the end of the Hunger Games saga on the horizon. The one nagging issue seems to be the X-Men. X-Men: Apocalypse is slated for a 2016 release, which means it could start filming late ’14 or early ’15. Is she involved? Mystique is a much bigger character in the movies than she ever was in the comics, and it could become difficult to shoehorn her into further X-adventures. Of course, the makeup for Mystique also takes a billion hours to apply, so it’s very possible Lawrence is exiting stage right from that franchise.
