It looks like there’s a newer, younger, "really, really, ridiculously good-looking" model coming to steal Zoolander’s thunder. Justin Bieber, the man, the myth, the legend, was rumored to have landed a role in the upcoming Zoolander 2, starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. Now it’s no longer unconfirmed buzz, as we have photographic proof that the pop singer has traded in his "Baby" face for "blue steel."
Stiller announced the news on his Instagram account in the best way possible: a battle of the blue steels, a smize-off (that’s "a smile-with-your-eyes-off," if you’re unfamiliar with Tyra Banks lingo), a profile punch-fest, or whatever you want to call it. In the image above, Bieber gives Zoolander a run for his money in recreating the character’s most infamous model pose. Biebs even looks exactly like him, from the pursed lips to the delicately sculpted eyebrows to the bedhead hair.
It’s unclear what role Bieber will play in Zoolander 2, though The Hollywood Reporter states it's a cameo. Rumors of his involvement began swirling after he teased an upcoming film role on his Facebook page earlier this week. He wrote that he’s working on something big in Europe (the film is currently filming in Rome, Italy) and to follow him on Fahlo to learn more. This was followed by a quote from the first movie, "He is so hot right now," which was spoken by Will Ferrell’s Mugatu in reference to Hansel’s (Wilson) rising star.
The 21-year-old Bieber, once known for antagonizing paparazzi before his bodyguards plucked him out of harm’s way, has been trying to remedy his ways. And that Comedy Central Roast presumably dropped his ego down a couple pegs. According to E! News, a source says he’s "interested in movies and starting a film career," so perhaps Zoolander 2 will be the beginning for this lil’ Mickey D’s-sized nugget.
In addition to Justin Bieber, Zoolander 2 is packed full of returning and newcomer talent. Representing the veterans are, of course, Stiller and Wilson as rival models turned bffs Derek and Hansel, Ferrell as maniacal fashion designer Mugatu, Christine Taylor as Derek’s reporter wife Matilda, and even Billy Zane. Fred Armisen, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig (unrecognizable as Alexanya Atoz), Kyle Mooney, Karlie Kloss and Cyrus Arnold (playing Derek’s son) are also among the new cast members joining the sequel. Details on Zoolander 2 are still under wraps, and the official plot description given by the studio is "3% Body Fat. 1% Brain Activity." For now, that's all we really need.
Zoolander 2 will open in theaters on February 12, 2016.
