Killer Tomatoes Are Coming To Get You

You know what we really need, in this era of torture porn movies and countless horror concepts revolving around nubile teens in the hands of psychopaths? Some good, old-fashioned camp. No killers with awful back stories or ingenious weaponry, and no human killers at all. The true enemies, of course, are tomatoes.

Yes, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is back, at the hands of the two guys who made a name for themselves on YouTube with “Ask A Ninja.” Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine will adapt the cult movie, which is about exactly what you think it is about. They bought the rights to the film from Killer Tomato Entertainment, which makes me happy just by existing. The Hollywood Reporter said they have not announced any plot changes from the original film, but don’t you agree that if they’re smart they’ll keep it exactly the same?

We’ve really only seen the beginning of Internet sensations being able to cross over into the mainstream, and thus far 2 million YouTube views haven’t necessarily translated into box office success (see Andy Samberg’s Hot Rod as merely one example). Do the Ninja guys have what it takes to actually cross over? It’s probably a good sign that they’re not trying to make an “Ask A Ninja” movie, since that format doesn’t exactly lend itself to feature length. And with the insanely silly title of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, it’s hard to see how two guys with a good sense of humor can possibly go wrong.
