New Looks At The New World

Ever wondered what Pocahontas would look like if Disney had made a live action film instead of an animated picture? Yeah, me neither, but that's kind of where The New World is headed, only with more nudity and violence and fewer talking trees. Check out some production stills below. The makers behind the film are touting it as a retelling of the myth of John Smith and Pocahontas. No doubt that's a loose translation that their version is going to be even wilder and wackier than Disney, despite the fact that no one seems to be singing or painting with all the colors of the wind. Brown seems the be the designers' favorite color. More on the silly "transcendence" of the film is available in oddball Flash based featurettes at the Official Website.

The film stars Colin Farrell, Christopher Plummer, Christopher Newport, Q'Orianka Kilcher, Christian Bale and David Thewlis. Written and directed by Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line), The New World hits theaters November 9, just in time to stir up plenty of Thanksgiving arguments. No doubt everyone from Native American organizations to historians will have plenty to say. Colin Farrell can't seem to stay away from the controversial projects.
