Milli Vanilli: The Movie
Musician biopics are all the rage. Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, and now Milli Vanilli. That’s right, Milli Vanilli. You might remember them from such songs as… well they didn’t actually sing any of their own songs. But they danced to them!
Variety says Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to make a movie about the duo. Jeff Nathanson has been hired to write and direct it. He knows a thing or two about massive frauds, having written Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can script.
Since writing Speed 2: Cruise Control back in 1997, Nathanson’s career has really taken off. He’s written such movie as Rush Hour 2, The Terminal, The Last Shot, and the upcoming Rush Hour 3. Ok, maybe Catch Me If You Can was more of a fluke than anything. Hm.
But, Nathanson apparently has a thing for fakers. He says, “I've always been fascinated by the notion of fakes and frauds, and in this case, you had guys who pulled off the ultimate con, selling 30 million singles and 11 million albums and then becoming the biggest laughing-stocks of pop entertainment.” Milli Vanilli’s duo may be a sad and twisted a joke, but perhaps Nathanson is on to something. There could be a great movie in there somewhere.
