It was just about a year ago today that Warner Bros. officially confirmed that Jesse Eisenberg will indeed play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's highly-anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, slated for release next year. Other than that, it's uncertain what may lie ahead for Eisenberg's Luthor but the actor did recently speak on the subject, sharing his excitement for the potential of his character resurfacing in future Superman films.
While promoting his latest film The End of the Tour, the actor was asked a few questions about his role in another, inarguably much larger project, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and whether he'll be following it up with more appearances as supervillain Lex Luthor in other Superman sequels. This is what he had to say.
" I would love to. It’s a great group and director, and the most ideal character to play."
I don't know about you but to us it sounds like he's holding information close to the vest. We can't blame him for that, as it's just standard studio protocol with movies of this magnitude. However, with Suicide Squad in pre-production, and with rumors flying about Luthor's potential involvement in the plot, we're pretty confident that there's more Luthor in Eisenberg's future. Don't expect to pry it out of the actor though, as he seems to treat all info about the DC character as top secret.
When Variety asked further if his head was still shaved due to just wrapping Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the actor replied:
"I can’t say anything about this stuff. They want all this to be a surprise."
Nicely played, Eisenberg, nicely played. Even though initial rumors were saying he would be keeping his mop of hair for the film, a photo surfaced that suggested the contrary. But, as we've learned long ago, you can never assume anything when it comes to the internet. Heck, it was only a few months ago that we were hearing Luthor would probably not be taking part in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Gal Gadot as Diana of Themyscira, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone and Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto and Scoot McNairy as yet-to-be-confirmed characters. The script was written by David S. Goyer, directed by Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Man of Steel) and is slated for release on March 25, 2016. Suicide Squad, which only has Eisenberg rumored at this point, is set for release the following August.
