Lucasfilm is getting ready to release Star Wars: Episode 7 this December 18 and introduce the world to a new trilogy with all-new characters. That includes Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron (which sounds more like the name of an off-brand anti-depressant medication you hear about during TV commercial breaks). Fans are already speculating which of the cast members will be living long enough to make it to the sequel, Episode 8, and so far most of them seem like they will. However, Isaac recently hinted that he is returning for the next chapter.

A Moviefone reporter recently asked Isaac if he was excited to work with Rian Johnson, the man directing Star Wars: Episode 8. The actor confirmed that, yes, he is "very excited." However, we shouldn’t get too amped over this, as Isaac also clarified that he hasn’t yet spoken with Johnson. Furthermore, SlashFilm followed up with him after making these statements to ask if any of the Star Wars cast knew their characters’ fates beyond The Force Awakens. Isaac said,

Ah, I couldn’t speak to that. I don’t even know. I think generally…watching the trailer was my only confirmation that I even was going to be in this one so I have no idea. I know that people thought I was saying I was going to be in the next one which is not true. I was asked if I was excited to work with Rian Johnson. I mean of course I would. I’d be excited to work with him. I have no confirmation whether I will or not or anything like that.

Here’s what we know so far about Mr. Poe Dameron. He’s an X-Wing pilot. His suit features a Rebel symbol on it, so you know he’s one of the good guys. Isaac was featured in the film’s very first casting announcement, which suggests Dameron is a leading character. That's all we officially know about the man, though there are rumors out there that suggest he’s also a descendant and perhaps even the son of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo. Based on what little info we have, it already seems likely that he’ll be back for Episode 8, despite the actor’s apparent doubt over the matter.
Lucasfilm continues to make plans for its new trilogy, slating Star Wars: Episode 8 for release on May 26, 2018. In addition to Oscar Isaac, we also have John Boyega (playing Finn), Daisy Ridley (as Rey), Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Max von Sydow, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, as well as original cast members Ford (as Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and a whole bunch of others. Which one of them do you think could bite the dust before Episode 8?
