Do you even need us to tell you what a bad ass Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson looks like in the first image for his upcoming earthquake-disaster adventure San Andreas? In other breaking news, water is super wet, the sun is uber-hot, and The Rock probably has another smash hit on his hands. All is right with the world.
Taking a cue from his Fast & Furious co-star Vin Diesel, The Rock shared this picture on his Instagram page, doing the Michael Bay slow walk away from a helicopter while the sunshine shimmers off the runway. Seriously, Rock spent too much time inhaling Bay’s fumes on the Pain & Gain set! "We need more smoke on this runway. I don’t care what your name is! Just give me more smoke!"
Creating a new hashtag for the feature film, Rock also shared:
Puttin' in a lot of hard ass work and proud to play my next role... Los Angeles Fire Department Air Squadron Rescue. Shooting starts in 4 weeks. Biggest earthquake of all time hits... SAN ANDREAS. #FirstInLastOut
If shooting starts in four weeks, perhaps this was just a costume test to see how Rock would look in an air squadron rescue jump suit? Well, duh. How do you think he’s going to look? The answer is "Awesome."
Let’s run through what we know about San Andreas, then, while we wait for production officially to get underway. It will be in theaters next summer. Rock plays a helicopter pilot who flies into a danger zone to rescue his daughter following a massive California earthquake. The role of his daughter went to the beautiful Alexandra Daddario, co-star of HBO’s True Detective and the Percy Jackson series. And San Andreas will be helmed by Brad Peyton, who previously directed the action star in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
There has been a lot of emphasis on the sheer number of massive blockbusters cramming into Summer 2015, starting with Avengers: Age of Ultron and running through Jurassic World. But now we have TWO Rock thrillers to look forward to that season, as the seventh installment of the Fast & Furious franchise also will drop that summer. Which Rock do you prefer? Behind the wheel of a massive automobile? Or piloting a helicopter over a devastated Golden State? OK, fine. We won’t make you choose between the two. Embrace them both! And while you wait, enjoy Rock beating the daylights out if Diesel. Just because:
