Rocket Raccoon Speaks! Hear Bradley Cooper Voice The Character For The First Time

Earlier, you met Rocket Raccoon as part of Marvel’s introduction to the Guardians of the Galaxy. But you didn’t hear him, and some fans (who know that Bradley Cooper voices the pint-sized character) complained. The studio heard them … and responded:

The clip was shared via Marvel’s YouTube page, sharing visual effects tests they went through to create this unusual character. As James Gunn suggests, this raccoon is the "heart" of the story being told in Guardians. And Rocket’s relationship with Groot – the tree-like hero voiced by Vin Diesel – will sell so many of the emotions that Guardians is trying to sell. This isn’t just an action-packed thrill ride. It’s looking like Guardians is going to try to be a dysfunctional-family story, as well. You almost could say the same thing about The Avengers, though, right?

Cooper taps into the primal "You talkin’ to me?" rage he brought to David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook for the line reading on display here. What the hell is Cooper saying in the clip , though? "This one here is…" something. "Our booty?" That can't be right, can it? Can you guys tell? Clearly, we need a much larger vocal sampling, though it is a rush to see the character moving to Cooper’s voice, because that was absent from the trailer.

Next up, we better hear Groot. Speaking of, did you hear the story of how Diesel got the part of Groot in Guardians? Bleeding Cool reports that Diesel's Facebook claims about meetings with Marvel and future projects was a lie. He floated that on the FB page, just to float it. But the posts created such chatter that Marvel's execs eventually DID take a meeting with Diesel, and it led to him voicing Groot in Guardians. Lesson? If you want something bad enough, lie, and it will come to you.

Gunn's movie reaches theaters on August 1.
