Russian Cloverfield Trailer Gives The Goods

Maybe because the Cloverfield marketing in Russia hasn’t been in such full force, and because J.J. Abrams isn’t the kind of cultural icon he is here, the Russians have been given a much more complete trailer for the January 18 movie than we’ve seen. It doesn’t reveal the monster, of course, but it gives a much better sense that this is a monster movie in which the people actually fight back, rather than run away screaming their heads off the whole time.

Basically we see the same group of 20-somethings looking afraid most the time, but with a couple of new explosions (at least to me, who hasn’t studied the other trailers in great detail). We also see a lot more action on the part of the military, which is refreshing. It makes it seem like the movie could be much more about the human resistance rather than just marveling at how much the monster could destroy.

The trailer can be found over at Bloody Disgusting. Marvel in the visuals, as well as the fact that the letter “J” (as in J.J. Abrams) takes two Russian characters to spell out. Or maybe I’m the only one who thinks that’s crazy.
