Sarah Hyland Licks Blood And Lucy Fry Flips Her Hair In New Vampire Academy Clips
Let's all pause for a second and appreciate the sight of Sarah Hyland licking blood off a wall because… well, who expected to see that today? Does the snozzberry blood taste like snozzberries? There's no indication that the blood smeared on the wall in the shape of a slightly misspelled phrase has anything to do with Willy Wonka's innovative fruity wallpaper, but there is an indication here — judging by the information Hyland's character Natalie shared — that Moroi vampires can, in fact, decipher different tastes of blood from one lick to the next, enough to determine that more than one Moroi vampire's blood was used for the message. That has to be a useful trick… at vampire parties and crime scenes, mostly.
The above clip is one of two new ones that have made their way online, giving us some better looks at Daniel and Mark Waters' feature adaptation of Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy. The story is set at St. Vladimir's Academy, were peaceful Moroi vampires are educated alongside the half-human/half-vampire Dhampirs that are there to train to protect the Moroi. Rose (Zoey Deutch) is a Dhampir, so her own blood-tasting abilities are probably pretty limited, but the clip gave us a peek at her protectiveness of her best friend Lissa (Lucy Fry), the spell-checking Moroi vampire who enters the later part of the scene.
Lissa is also in this second clip, which serves as a fine demonstration of the link Rose and Lissa have. The two are bonded in such a way that Rose can actually enter Lissa's mind and see things from her perspective. This is a useful little device in the book because the story is told from Rose's perspective, but her connection with Lissa gives us an up-close look at some of the things that Lissa is dealing with, regardless of whether or not Rose is actually in the room with her. In this case, it's a conversation between Lissa and and the dreamy but aloof Christian Ozera (Dominic Sherwood)…
In addition to showing us Rose providing some solo-commentary for her best friend's hair-flipping techniques, we also get to see Lissa trying to compel Christian. And by the chatter about a fox and fire, I'm going to guess that this clip takes place not long after the class disturbance clip, which showed Christian coming to Rose and Lissa's defense…
And if you haven't seen it, here's the first clip that made the rounds, which shows a bit more of Sami Gayle's character Mia causing problems…
Vampire Academy arrives in theaters February 7. That's next Friday, for those not within viewing distance of a calendar. And the soundtrack will arrive on Tuesday.
