Second Cloverfield Trailer Uncovered?

The more I hear about JJ Abrams’ mystery movie with no title, you know the one everyone is calling Cloverfield or 01-18-08 or Monstrous take your pick, the more convinced I am that the whole thing is simply going to be a tremendous letdown. The latest batch of rumors from AICN seem only to confirm it.

They have what they claim is a scooper’s description of a new teaser trailer for the untitled movie. Don’t worry, it’s just as vague and evasive as the first teaser you’ve already seen. In it, their emailer describes footage in which a ragtag group of survivors struggle down a tunnel and into a military medical facility. There, they discover that one of their group is sick, and someone shouts “She’s been bitten!”

That last bit is interesting. Last week we heard rumors that the movie wouldn’t actually be about a big monster attacking a city. Rather, that would be only a minor part of the story while the majority of the film’s running time is spent following “raptor-like” smaller creatures which chase the survivors. If that sounds familiar it’s because it’s the plot of the awful, updated Godzilla movie we got a few years back. It didn’t work there, and I doubt it’ll work here. Small dino creatures chase humans has been done to death, and done better in Jurassic Park. The fact that the woman in this rumored teaser was bitten by something seems to lend credence to that Godzilla knock-off rumor, since it’s unlikely she’d survive being bitten by a creature the size of the Statue of Liberty.
