Don Scardino’s The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, a Las Vegas-based magician comedy, co-stars Steve Carell, Jim Carrey and Steve Buscemi … though you’d never guess that based on the first official poster, because the three men look nothing like themselves. Which is probably great, because the further this movie drifts of the path of the safe and conventional, the better it will be for all of us!
As the movie ramps up to its March 15 release date, a one-sheet has been shared on the picture’s official Facebook page. It’s one white tiger away from being full-blown Siegfried and Roy. And it’s incredible. Check that – it’s “Abracatastic!” Drink it in below and click to see it full size.
The movie stars Carell as the title character, who splits with his long-time stage-magician partner (Buscemi) after a mid-performance accident. Years later, an up-and-coming street magician (Carrey) is stealing Wonderstone’s thunder, so he tries to convince his partner to return to the Vegas Strip to reclaim their magic (for lack of a better word).
Scardino is a television director making the leap to the big screen after helming episodes of legitimately funny sitcoms like 30 Rock, Rescue Me and, more recently, The Mindy Project. He has a fantastic cast, which also includes Alan Arkin, James Gandolfini and Olivia Wilde. And the film is expected to make a splashy debut at the South By Southwest Film Festival in March when it serves as the opening-night film. The initial trailer was bat-shit crazy, and this poster helps convince us that we’re in for something wildly original in a few weeks.
