Tobe Hooper Drives A Buick 8

The director who brought you Poltergeist and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is climbing behind the camera for another horror flick. This one unites the Master of Horror with one of his own kind, as Hooper prepares to direct the film adaptation of Stephen King’s From a Buick 8. King and Hooper – now there’s a horror lover’s dream come true (a pairing almost as promising as the original attached director, George Romero).

From a Buick 8 tells the story of a mysterious car found by a Pennsylvania State Police Patrol. It turns out the car’s entryways (doors and trunk) open a portal to another dimension. When one of the officers dies, his son becomes obsessed with the vintage vehicle.

I have to admit I originally wrote Buick 8 off as a Christine revamp from the author, but it sounds like that couldn’t be farther from the truth. That appears to be part of what is appealing for Hooper as well. The director told Variety that the story will not be "your stock horror film by any means. There's a really cool, layered quality to the story.”

The screenplay adaptation has been written by Johnathon Schaech (actor in That Thing You Do) and Richard Chizmar (Road House 2: Last Call) and will be produced by Moonstone Entertainment.
