If you want to get people to pay attention to your movie, titling it Young People Fucking isn’t a bad way to go about it. But if you want people to actually bother to see your movie, you’ve got to cut together a better trailer than the one available below.
Basically the movie offers a lot of what the title promises—well, almost. This is a trailer after all, and they can’t exactly go hard core in something that’s intended for a mass audience. But pretty much all you get out of the trailer is that there are young people in this movie, and they are having lots of sex—some of it good, some of it bad, but trust them, lots of sex. The lack of anything but people talking about sex, pretending to have sex or wanting to have sex makes me think that the movie has nothing else going for it. There are no recognizable stars to cash in on, and other than the fact that the characters are all having relationship issues, nothing seems to link them all together.
When a trailer resorts to a montage set to a pop ballad—usually the resort of a movie with nothing left to say—you know you’re in trouble. Young People doesn’t have a specific release date set, but don’t be surprised if you never see it in theatres. It seems like a retread of that MTV show Undressed, and maybe MTV—or elsewhere deep, deep in premium cable—is where this belongs.
