Like just about every big, blockbuster movie being released in the next year Transformers 3 will show up in 3D. What’s not entirely clear is what kind of 3D we’re getting. Previous statements issued by people such as the film’s producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and 3D consultant Vince Pace have indicated that they aren’t really shooting the entire movie in 3D, and that parts of it will be post-converted in horrible, Clash of the Titans fashion. But now Michael Bay says otherwise.

In a statement issued on his website Michael Bay attacks anyone who says they aren’t shooting the entire movie in 3D this way:

I read these morons on the internet who think they are in the know. "We have have problems with our 3D????" Really? Come into my edit room and I will show you beautiful 3D. There has never been a live action show that has pushed the boundaries of 3D like Transformers 3. We shot the entire movie with 3D cameras. I actually loved shooting in 3D. I will give full details of my process and why I liked 3D in the next week right before the Transformers announcement piece comes out on Tron and Narnia.

Two things worth noting here. First, some of the “morons on the internet who think they are in the know” are actually people who are working with him on the film. Vince Pace is the man they're actually consulting specifically on the movie's 3D, and he said that some of the movie isn’t being shot in 3D. Second, Michael Bay has a history of not only stretching the truth, but outright fabrication where his movies are concerned. Even though it’s his movie, Michael Bay is a fairly unreliable as a source. He’s been known to intentionally spread false information about his projects.

So who should we believe here? Did Di Bonaventura and Pace just misspeak? Their statements weren't all that ambiguous. Di Bonaventura said they were “doing a lot of the movie in 3D.” When asked if they were shooting the movie in 3D or doing post-conversion Vince Pace said they were “doing both”. Somebody must be wrong here. They can’t all three be right.

Maybe we’ll know more soon. It sounds like Michael Bay’s promising the first Transformers: Dark of the Moon teaser trailer may show up as soon as December 10th, when Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader debuts.
