Warwick Davis Returns To Narnia

A couple of days ago when I reported on Peter Dinklage being cast in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian as a dwarf I remarked that this is the kind of role better off left to Warwick Davis. Now, in a weird twist of prescience Coming Soon is reporting that Warwick Davis has been given the other major dwarf role in Narnia 2. If this was an Alanis Morissett song it… probably wouldn’t be mentioned at all because she has absolutely no concept of what irony is.

Davis is playing the Black Dwarf Nikabrik, which should mean a lot of tense scenes between him and Dinklage who’s playing his opposition the dwarf Trumpkin. In a way I guess that’s kind of cool. Warwick Davis represents the best of the old guard of little people actors while Dinklage represents the best of the new. Should be fun.

If for some reason you don’t know who Warwick Davis is, then maybe you should watch some of these movies: Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Harry Potter, Star Wars Episode I, Leprechaun 1-4, Willow, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Labyrinth, and Time Bandits. That’s just a few of the movies he’s been in. If I start listing television shows it’ll probably blow your mind. Most recently he did a genius cameo on the Ricky Gervais series ‘Extras’ in which Ricky Gervais kicks him in the face.

Oddly enough, Warwick has done Narnia before. He played the mouse soldier Reepicheep in the old BBC miniseries version of the Narnia books. That’s him as Reepicheep in the pic to your right. If you missed the british miniseries as a kid, seek it out. It's not as big and splashy as the Hollywood version, but they’re surprisingly well done. Having Warwick as one of the lead characters is always a help.
