Transformers 4

Nothing says Transformers like a group of human actors standing around … without a car in sight. Mind you, Paramount has shared PLENTY of images of the automobiles that director Michael Bay plans to feature in his upcoming Transformers sequel. So today, the actors get a chance to shine.

“Just another day on the set of Transformers 4,” is the subject line of the email we received from Paramount Studios, giving us this new look at the ongoing production. Co-stars Jack Reynor and Mark Wahlberg stand to the left. They play, according to the IMDB page, “Shane” and “Flynn Vincent,” and they are prepared for battle. The same site hints at this logline: “A mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down Autobots and Decepticons - and a paranoid government official - on them.” Wahlberg plays the father. Young actress Nicola Peltz has been cast as his daughter, Tessa. Shane (Reynor) is Tessa’s boyfriend, and we hear that his character is a race-car driver. Peltz isn’t in this picture, though. Instead, we get – according to the studio – 2nd Assistant B-Camera Operator Casey “Walrus” Howard; 1st Assistant B-Camera Operator John Kairis, with his back to the camera; B-Camera Operator Lukasz Bielan; Bay; and Director of Photography Amir Mokri.

And really, how great is that Bay pose. The man continues to feed his myth with every step. I love him for it. Do you?

We haven’t seen any actual footage from this new Transformers movie, which is a bit of a surprise, given the fact that it’s going to be in theaters on June 27, 2014. Several other films that are circling release dates next summer brought footage to Comic-Con, from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Those clips haven’t surfaced online (yet), but the studio at least had reels to show to fans. It’s likely that Bay’s Autobots and Decepticons rely so heavily on special effects that there isn’t anything yet to show, but a teaser trailer hitting theaters or online in the next few weeks would ease my mind about the direction of this sequel.

While we wait, let’s speculate: What the hell is that thing on which Bay and his cast are posing? It looks alien in nature. At the same time, it could be a spike on the shoulder or back of a massive Transformer. We don’t know a lot about where this latest chapter is going, but Dark of the Moon and Revenge of the Fallen made strides in connecting the Transformers on our planet with other robots occupying location in space. Whatever they are standing on, it could be a way to communicate with other Autobots. Or something entirely different.

As mentioned, the new Transformers comes out next year. I’m guessing a trailer could be on its way soon, and once it drops, we’ll share.
