Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them assembled its main cast between April and October of 2015. Since principal photography concluded in late January, we weren't expecting any other major actors to be announced, but with three months to go until the movie's release, another name has been added. Mad Max: Fury Road actress Zoe Kravitz as been added to the Harry Potter prequel in a mystery role.
Zoe Kravitz was added to Fantastic Beasts shortly after production began, and while her presence in the movie is small, THR says it's possible that she could have a "meatier part" in the sequel. The report didn't name Kravitz's character, so we don't know if she'll be a magic-conjuring wizard or a powerless No-Maj. Kravitz joins a cast that includes Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton, Ezra Miller, Jon Voight and Ron Perlman.
Also famous for being a singer and model, Zoe Kravitz has been acting since 2007, but she's built herself quite a blockbuster career in recent years.Just last year, she appeared as Toast the Knowing, one of Immortan Joe's five wives, in Mad Max: Fury Road. Her other notables roles include playing Christina in The Divergent Series, Nakia in Dope, Angel Salvadore in X-Men: First Class and Senshi Raige in After Earth. Despite her late addition to Fantastic Beasts, it sounds like Zoe Kravitz's character has the potential to be someone important in this magical movie series, so fans would be wise to keep an eye on her in he first entry to get a sense of what she'll have to offer.
Taking place over 60 years before the events of the original Harry Potter books/movies, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will follow Newt Scamander, an introverted wizard who takes care of a collection of unusual creatures within his magical briefcase. During his visit to New York City for an official meeting, his creatures will escape from their confinement, leaving Newt to track them down with the help of Magical Congress of the United States of America employee Tina Goldstein, her sister Queenie and No-Maj Jacob Kowalski before these beasts can cause too much damage. Unfortunately for them, searching for the creatures is only the start of their problems, as they will not only be chased by Percival Graves and other Wizarding authorities, but will also be antagonized No-Maj Mary Lou and her organization of magic-hating extremists, known as the New Salem Philanthropic Society.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will work its magic in theaters on November 18, and if Zoe Kravitz's character is brought back, fans can look forward to seeing her in Fantastic Beasts 2 on November 16, 2018.
