Fifty Shades Darker Teases Us With An Intriguing Trailer Teaser

Last year, the book sensation Fifty Shades of Grey made a huge impact when it landed at the box office on Valentine's Day weekend - and it was clear immediately that we would soon be seeing development of a sequel. Well, now that follow-up is just a few months away, and with a brand new trailer dropping tomorrow, we now have our first footage from Fifty Shades Darker.
The official Facebook page launched this debut trailer teaser for Fifty Shades Darker - which only serves to give fans brief glimpses at sequences fans can expect to see on the big screen. There are fireworks, legs, masks and long-gazes into a mirror, but that's pretty much it. Of course, we expect a bit more substance from the full trailer that will be going online tomorrow.
Directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross, House of Cards) and based on the novel of the same name by E.L. James, Fifty Shades Darker begins shortly after the events of the first movie, which found Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) enter into a relationship with business magnate Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) that wound up having a bit of a BDSM twist. Following a particularly rough spanking session, Anastasia felt disturbed and hurt by Grey's proclivities at the end of Fifty Shades of Grey, but judging from this shot in this new teaser, it seems that she has found it within herself to forgive him:
In addition to dropping this new trailer teaser for the film, Fifty Shades of Darker has also released the first poster for the movie, which also intimately pairs stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. Based on the footage and this image, it looks like masks will play a significant part in the story - which makes a degree of sense given that they can both be a part of BDSM play and can easily be used for symbolism and allegory.
We are presumably getting this big Fifty Shades Darker marketing push today because Bridget Jones's Baby arrives in theaters on Friday, and both movies share a demographic and a home studio in Universal Pictures. That being said, fans are going to have to still wait a bit before they will actually get to see the new erotic romance film on the big screen. Having had so much success with Valentine's Day weekend in 2015, Universal is employing a similar release strategy for the sequel, and have the movie out on February 10, 2017. Fans can then expect to see the follow-up, Fifty Shades Freed, exactly 364 days later, as the final feature in the trilogy will be out on February 9, 2018.
