What Ben Affleck's Solo Batman Movie Is Currently Titled

The Batman

While DC's movie universe is working on introducing new characters who have neer been on the screen before, like the Suicide Squad or Wonder Woman, most fans are still more interested in the old favorites, like Batman. Ben Affleck is hard at work on the script for his stand alone movie as the caped crusader, and now he has revealed the movie's working title, which, unfortunately, doesn't reveal much about the plans for the film.

The movie I think is going to be called The Batman. At least that's what we're going with right now. I might change it... That's about all I got right now. We're working on the script, the script is going well, I'm really excited about it.

While it's nice to know what the potential title for the movie is, what Ben Affleck tells the Associated Press doesn't really give us any interesting hints. The Batman was actually the title that we had first heard when the rumors of the project first began to surface. It's possible that the title was just handed to him by Warner Bros. when they gave him the project, and that he just hasn't bothered to change it yet.

We already had a movie that was simply titled Batman back in 1989, though certainly, they could reuse that if they really wanted to. It's not an origin story, so anything even along the same lines as Batman Begins doesn't work. Yet, as the first Batman movie within a new DC Universe framework, it would seem that it should get a similarly simple title, something simple along the lines of Wonder Woman or Man of Steel. It's also likely that they don't necessarily know what the final version of the movie will really be quite yet, so giving it a more specific title just ends up meaning you have to change it later. The Batman works for any movie that has Batman in it as the lead.

The word on the street has been that all or part of The Batman will take place within Arkham Asylum, the place where most of Batman's villains end up after he's done with them. That however, is still a rumor. The only thing that we really know for sure is that Deathstroke will be a part of the movie in some capacity. If Deathstroke turns out to be one of many villains who will make an appearance then the Arkham rumors could prove true. If Deathstroke will be the focal point of Batman's efforts, we could be going off in a different direction.

Ben Affleck says that he might change the title of The Batman. If, and when, he does, we might be able to pick up some hits from the change. Until then, the next Batman movie could literally be about anything that involves The Batman.
