Will Finn and Poe's Relationship Continue In The Last Jedi? Here's What John Boyega Said
So much Star Wars news, so little time. With the annual Star Wars Celebration taking place this weekend in Florida, bits and pieces of news from the franchise have gone public. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the main focus today, as the sequel's first trailer was released alongside new details about Rey and Luke, and the debut of new character Rose. And while this is all very exciting, a big Star Wars theory is at the front of people's minds: are Finn and Poe a romantic number, or what? These rumors started shortly after The Force Awakens was released, and now we know more about how the duo will grow with The Last Jedi.
During today's panel at Celebration, moderator Josh Gad asked John Boyega if Poe and Finn would continue to get closer in The Last Jedi. Boyega said,
Well, isn't that delightfully vague? John Boyega seems to be fueling the fires for Poe/Finn shippers, keeping his language ambiguous. Way to go, John. Let's entertain both possibilities for Poe and Finn's onscreen relationship.
One possibility is that the "new adventure" could mean something more intimate han friendship. J.J. Abram previously voiced his support for LGBT inclusion in the Star Wars franchise, so perhaps he was actually laying the ground work for Poe and Finn to be an item. Alternatively, Abrams meant what he said, but he wasn't referring to two of the three new leads.
And not that The Last Jedi needs it, but all publicity is good publicity. John Boyega had shut down the rumor once or twice before, but he's since taken a more ambiguous tone. Perhaps this is so the shippers will show up to theaters in hopes that the two characters will end up together. Or he was told about their relationship after the release of The Force Awakens. Oscar Isaac has only continued to keep the rumor going since The Force Awakens was released, so who are we supposed to believe?
Regardless of whether their relationship is friendship or romantic, it'll be great to see Finn and Poe reunited when The Last Jedi hits theaters. The two young heroes had a great give and take upon first meeting, with Poe giving Finn his name and signature jacket. If the new trilogy of films truly aims to be on par with the original, the three new characters must continue to form strong bonds. How else will any consequences or deaths have any weight to them?
We'll just have to wait and see what new adventures Finn, Poe, and Rey get into when The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017. Check out our full 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
