Marvel's Black Panther introduced a lot of people to some great characters that fans who don't read comics weren't necessarily familiar with, but now, some of those characters are getting some extra love in the comics. Marvel has announced a series of three one-shot books that will spotlight Black Panther 's female guard the Dora Milaje, and will put them alongside fan favorites like Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men.

The story is called Wakenda Forever and will be told over a series of three books set to release this summer. June will see Wakanda Forever: The Amazing Spider-Man, July will follow with Wakanda Forever: X-Men, and the story will conclude in August with Wakanda Forever: Avengers. The story is being written by Hugo and Nebula award winner Nnedi Okorafor with art by Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque.

The story will see the Dora Milaje catch wind of a threat to Wakanda in New York City that will send the all-female special forces across an ocean to deal with it, and see them teaming with several other Marvel heroes.

The Dora Milaje primarily represented by Danai Gurira as Okoye, was one of the many high points of the recent Black Panther movie. The movie almost certainly created a bunch of new fans, so it's great to see the characters be able to take center stage in a new comic series. Marvel editor Will Moss, revealed an image from the first book on Twitter.

With Avengers: Infinity War on the horizon, we've seen that the Dora Milaje will have the opportunity to interact with several Avengers, including Captain America and Black Widow. However, the comic may be the only place in the near future where fans can see them work with Spider-Man, as we haven't seen any indication he makes the trip to Wakanda. And of course, the Dora Milaje working with the X-Men is right out of the big screen options, at least for the moment. Although, perhaps the comic could be an indication of things to come once the X-Men are incorporated into the MCU.

With the popularity of so many new characters from Black Panther, it's pretty safe bet that we're going to see a lot more of all the characters that became popular thanks to the film. In April we'll get to see them all again in Avengers: Infinity War, and then in June, we'll get to see them again in this new comic series.
