Fast And Furious 9 Has Hit A Setback After Serious Stuntman Injury On Set

Vin Diesel in Fate of the Furious

The Fast and Furious franchise is known for fast cars, furious action and wild stunts. Those things have made it one of the biggest franchises going, but unfortunately those wild stunts also carry some inherent risks. The production of the next film in the franchise, Fast & Furious 9, has hit a setback after a stuntman suffered a serious injury on the set of the film.

A stuntman was injured on Monday on the set of the movie which is currently filming at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom. Police and paramedics were called to the set of Fast & Furious 9 following an accident where a man was reportedly injured in a fall. The man apparently suffered a serious head injury and was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital.

In order to focus on the serious situation that had occurred, a spokesman for Universal has told THR that production on Fast 9 was halted for the day following the accident. It doesn’t seem like production will be shut down for too much longer than that based on the statement from the studio, but obviously in a situation like this the health of the crew member is the first priority and concerns about production and hitting release dates come in as distant seconds.

There is no word on the stuntman’s condition at the present time. It’s unclear from the early reports exactly what happened on the set of Fast & Furious 9 or who was present when the accident occurred. Based on the early details, the fall information seems likely to be accurate.

We don’t know if this was simply an on-set accident or if this was the case of a stunt gone wrong. Either way, “serious head injury” is quite a scary thing to hear and we wish all the best for the unnamed stuntman to make a swift and full recovery.

Fast & Furious 9 marks the next film in the mainline Fast & Furious franchise following 2017’s The Fate of the Furious. Originally set to debut this year, the film was delayed to next year with the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw marking the only time this year we’ll get to live life a quarter-mile at a time.

Justin Lin returns to the director’s chair for the ninth-installment of the franchise, having directed the third through the sixth entries, but having sat out the past two. In addition to the usual suspects, Fast & Furious 9 will also bring back Jordana Brewster’s Mia Toretto and Fate of the Furious’ Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron. Although Dwayne Johnson is not expected to reprise his role as Luke Hobbs, John Cena has officially joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

The plot for Fast & Furious 9 is still under wraps, but we’ll keep you updated as information becomes available. Fast & Furious 9 races into theaters on May 22, 2020. While you await the return of The Family, you can see a different group of families in the franchise’s first spinoff film Hobbs & Shaw, opening on August 2.
