Elton John Is Touring One Last Time

Elton John kicking in Kingsman 2

In the world of classic rock, there are few figures quite as substantial as Elton John. John's discography is filled with hits that are still beloved today, allowing the legendary singer to remain at the forefront of the pop culture lexicon. John is also known to appear on award shows like the Grammys, mixing his signature style with artists like Eminem and close friend Lady Gaga. And while he's far from retirement, it looks like there is one aspect of his career that is coming to an end: touring. Elton John recently announced a goodbye tour called Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, as the 70 year old rock star won't be doing any more in the future.

This news to us comes from from Elton John himself, who paired with Youtube to make the special announcement of the tour. It looks like his generations of fans will finally have to say goodbye to the yellow brick road, as John will stop touring after nearly 50 years. John spoke in an interview about the announcement, saying:

I always thought I was going to be like Ray Charles, BB King - on the road forever. My priorities have changed. We had children and I changed our lives. That doesn't mean to say I'm not going to be creative. But I'm not going to travel.

Of course, no one can say that Elton John hasn't kept busy over his long career in the spotlight. John has never really left the music world, continuing to do appearances and tour with his massive catalogue of hits. But at the age of 70, fans could and should understand if he wants to take it a little bit easier, and spend more time sleeping in his own bed.

During the announcement video, which was hosted by Anderson Cooper, Elton John also clarified that the decision is not based on any health problems. He said:

Last year I picked up an infection and I was very ill and it knocked me sideways. But I still did 96 shows.

Indeed, Elton John did play 96 shows in 2017, which is rather impressive. Additionally, he was kept busy last year because of his supporting role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The sequel saw Elton John play a fictionalized version of himself, and kick some ass in the process. Rather than a cameo, John was truly a member of the supporting cast, and played some absolutely bonkers scenes alongside Julianne Moore.

It should be interesting to see what Elton John does next. With touring off the table, his schedule may be much more free for more surprising projects or acting roles. He'd also been previously developing a biopic about himself, named Rocket Man. Or best of all, perhaps he could do some writing an release new music for his fans. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed.

Best of luck to Elton John on the next phase of his career and life.
