Adorable Alert: Watch This Giraffe Stand Up For The First Time

I would rather be a human being than a giraffe. It’s really not even close. That being said, I definitely wish I would have been able to stand up less than thirty minutes after being born. It took me months to get to that point. This giraffe, while admittedly a little wobbly, is already standing under her own power after fifteen minutes. She’s even getting licked by her mother while it’s happening, which seems like it would be an uncomfortable distraction, but she’s taking it like a champ.

The above giraffe was born last week at the LEO Zoological Conservation Center in Greenwich, Connecticut. The mother is a six-year-old Rothschild giraffe named Petal, and while the calf has not been named yet, all signs point to her doing extremely well. She’s nursing, moving around and has already been welcomed into the larger herd of giraffes.

The majority of baby animal videos on the Internet are not surprisingly, focused on kittens and puppies. Now and again, however, we’re treated to something a little bit different. This video is a prime example of that, and hopefully, it will encourage many New England residents to check out and support the Zoological Conservation Center.
