J.K. Rowling Finally Writing Official Harry Potter Encyclopedia

Those of who have read and re-read the Harry Potter book series probably feel like walking Potter encyclopedias, able to name the device Hagrid used to mask his illegal wand (a pink umbrella), the names of the Patil twins (Pavarti and Padma), and describe in detail Hermione's mean-spirited cat Crookshanks (orange, squashy-faced). But all we know about the Potter world is what J.K. Rowling wrote in her books, while the author herself has the entire universe dreamed up-- stories about Lily and James Potter's early years of marriage, entire backstories for minor Hogwarts professors, and all the details about what was happening in the Slytherin common room while we hung out with the Gryffindors.

So no matter how many fan-run Harry Potter encyclopedias there are online, none will hold a candle to what Rowling is planning next: an extensive Potter encyclopedia, with some new material that makes up the boons content you can find at the new site Pottermore. Here's the entirety of the details she gave in a new entry on her official website:

For a long time I have been promising an encyclopaedia of Harry’s world, and I have started work on this now – some of it forms the new content in Pottermore. It is likely to be a time-consuming job, but when finished I shall donate all royalties to charity.

So while Rowling still isn't planning on writing any more Potter books, who knows what we might be able to learn about the world of Hogwarts and beyond in this encyclopedia. Much more so than The Stories of Beedle the Bard, which Rowling published a few years back, I'd be anxious to read this and learn more about a world I was happy to inhabit over the course of 7 books. I know I can't be alone-- will you guys be ready to buy this as well when she finally finishes it?
