Jerry The King Lawler Hospitalized After Collapsing On Monday Night Raw

Wrestling legend Jerry “The King” Lawler collapsed while taping Monday Night Raw yesterday evening. The legend was offering commentary on a match when he had a heart attack. Medical personnel reportedly rushed him backstage and performed CPR before placing him in an ambulance.

Details on the King’s condition are still very fuzzy at this hour, but his ex-wife Stacey Carter has been trying to keep fans updated on Twitter. She says Lawler had a stint and a balloon put in and is heavily sedated. Given how quickly emergency responders jumped in to help, there’s reason to be optimistic about his condition, but we wont really know the score until the WWE puts out an official update.

Lawler first rose to prominence during the 1980s in the midst of a fabricated feud with comedian Andy Kaufman. The two men taunted, sucker punched and poked at each other for months before appearing together on Letterman and taking the act to a whole new extreme via coffee throws, slaps and swear words.

For the past few decades, Lawler has served mainly as a commentator. With a brash wit and a willingness to back the bad guy, he’s called many of the WWE’s most historic moments of the past few decades. Now and again, he’s ventured back in the ring to do a bit of wrestling. According to FoxSports, he participated in a tag team match on Monday prior to his heart attack. More than likely, that physical exertion played a role in what happened to the sixty-two-year-old.

Pop Blend’s sincerest well-wishes go out to Lawler. Heres’ to hoping the King is back in the booth where he belongs in no time.
