Laker Steve Blake Hit With Twitter Death Threats After Game 2 Miss

Twitter is sometimes a merciless place, especially for celebrities. Lakers guard Steve Blake found that out Thursday, a day after his potential game-winning shot failed to find the net in the waning seconds of game two against the Thunder. Just days earlier, the career six-point-a-game scorer was the toast of the town after he exploded for nineteen against the Nuggets, but those feelings of euphoria were gone for at least five hundred Lakers fans who hit up Twitter after the miss and inundated Blake’s account with angry messages.

According to ESPN, many of the tweets were extremely graphic in nature and a few even wished harm upon the guard’s family. Blake’s wife wound up blocking hundreds from her timeline and ultimately quoted the Bible to say she was praying for her husband’s abusers.

I’ll willingly admit I’m a crazy sports fan. Sometimes I scream at players while I’m watching on television. Other times, I rant to my fiancée about dudes I wish would be traded immediately, but there’s a fine line between getting angry in the comfort of your own house and reaching out to bitch at the players themselves on Twitter. Ultimately, there’s little value in that, and any tweets threatening harm are just flat out wrong. It’s not like Steve Blake is going to be more likely to make a three pointer if he’s distracted about his wife’s safety. If anything, he’ll probably be more likely to miss.

My thoughts go out to Blake and his family, but as a guy who’d rather see the Thunder win, I’m still glad he missed that shot.
