Lil Wayne Writing A Book About Prison Stint

Fans have long cherished the lyrics of Lil Wayne, but now they’ll get a chance to sample a more free form writing style. The twenty-nine year old hip hop star has just signed a deal to publish a memoir. Entitled Gone Till November, it’ll chronicle his eight month stint inside New York’s famed Riker’s Island prison. The lockup in question occurred in 2010 and came after a conviction on gun-related charges.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lil Wayne kept a detailed journal during his time behind bars, and that diary will serve as the basis for the forthcoming book. As of press time, it’s a little bit unclear exactly how much of the book the musician has finished, but considering Grand Central Publishing has already put a November 28th release date on the schedule, one would hope he’s a ways along in rewriting or abridging the words he wrote while inside.

Like most memoirs, this one has pretty much come out of left field. I’m not sure anyone knew Lil Wayne had aspirations to be a writer or to share his story, but the novelty of it all should attract more than a few curious eyeballs. Then, if it’s good, more eyeballs will follow, ideally producing a New York Times Best Seller.

The goal of any book release is to chronicle a unique perspective. Lil Wayne should have no problem accomplishing that. His music has always dripped with originality. There’s no reason to expect his memoir will be any different.
