Mark Wahlberg’s had a rather quirky existence. The 41-year-old went from delinquent teen in Boston to a singer with underwear popping up out of his pants. He later showed off his (fake) penis in Boogie Nights which was admirable enough to lead him into a very lucrative and sometimes critically acclaimed acting and producing career. Now, the actor is tackling yet another obstacle: earning his high school diploma.
The Fighter actor recently went on Late Show with David Letterman to discuss his former life as a juvenile mess and to talk about his career successes as well as his thriving family. The producer and actor also spoke out about going back and taking the courses needed to earn his diploma.
"I quit kind of during the ninth grade. They're going to give me whatever credits I already have, which is probably like one or two."
In his normally macho but also somewhat abashed way, Wahlberg also spoke about being a little nervous for the upcoming event, which is understandable even for someone taking online courses from the safety of his or her home. The man’s been out of the school game for twenty years, and he was never really a fan of the learning gig in the first place. However, the man seems pretty determined this time around, leaving little doubt that he will achieve his end goal.
"It's one of those things where I said, 'You know what? I’m going to make it happen.' "
Getting your diploma is no small feat, and going back to get your GED when you are already a successful individual takes some serious balls. Pop Blend would like to wish Wahlberg the best of luck in his future endeavors, and especially in finding some prime real estate wall space for that diploma when it comes in.
