One Track Sunday: Modeselektor Gets Into Some Monkey Business

Radiohead favorite Modeselektor has never been quick with the output. After 2007’s Happy Birthday! the German band spent four years cultivating 2011’s Monkeytown before releasing it in September. The band’s unhurried pace seems to produce great results, which is why there are no complaints from my end, even when I am forced to wait six months for the release of a video for “Berlin,” the rhythmic sixth track off of the group's third full length effort.

“Berlin” begins in a groovin’ German town, in a groovin’ restaurant joint. Soon we see the relative movement of the buildings and people follow the movement of a giant gorilla shaking up the town as it searches for something specific. There’s a lot going on in the music and it is a little more chill than what we might normally get from Modeselektor, but the combination of the beats intermixed with Miss Platnum’s vocals and a rocking video replete with cardboard art and animation is too much to be missed. Especially when the movement of the gorilla’s biceps follows the music. I could listen to this all day, but even if you can’t, try giving the video a shot just once.
