Ryan Lochte's Parents Might Lose Their House

Being famous might offer a lot of perks, but it also makes it a hell of a lot harder to keep secrets. Ryan Lochte, whose status has continually risen with each of his three Olympic appearances, has been all over the headlines for his medal-winning performances over the past ten days, but sadly, so have his parents.

Apparently, the Lochte’s haven’t paid their mortgage of sixteen hundred dollars a month for almost a year and a half. According to TMZ, CitiMortgage has filed a lawsuit in order to foreclose on the swimmer’s family and sell their house to get back the investment. If the ultimate sale doesn’t cover the more than two hundred and forty thousand that’s outstanding, they would like the Lochte’s to pay the difference out of pocket.

The family has reportedly filed a motion to dismiss the case, but if they really haven’t paid anything in more than a year, it seems unlikely a Florida judge would have any reason to halt the foreclosure process. Life might occasionally make it difficult to pay the mortgage, but that doesn’t mean there is any less of a legal obligation during those periods.

Of course, with endorsement deals sure to come from his Olympic performance, Lochte could pay off his family’s debt. It’s just a question of whether he will want to. None of us have any way of knowing why his parents have fallen so far behind. It could well be through a sad and traumatic grouping of events, or it could be from straight up bad decision making or laziness.
